This
PEUGEOT 604 Landaulet is indeed a very special car: It's not only
one of just two 604 Landaulets ever made, in fact it's the 604 Présidentielle
of the Republic of Niger, a former french colony...

You
need more detailed data to believe this car is not just a dream?
It is a 604 A31, serial no.: 6573152, carrosserie
no.: 72417, making the basis car a 1978 model. This beauty was
turned into a Landaulet by CHAPRON, then being displayed at the
1978 Paris Motor Show and subsequently shipped to Niger. These photos
were taken in Niger when this almost unique car was for sale sometime
2001/2002. In the background lurks a 505 Break |

...leather
seats, powered rear windows... Now this is open-top motoring of
it's best! Unfortunately just two Landaulets were built by CHAPRON,
says Dominique PAGNEUX in his book "La 604 de mon père" |
Note
handle bar to use when parading in the 604 Landaulet |
|
2.6
litre V6 engine with carbs and A/C
compressor, and supposed 15.000 kms on the clock. No rust! |

Imagine
my surprise when I came across the very same car on the Paris Retromobile
2003. Obviously, this historic Peugeot 604 has been purchased by
a french enthusiast. |

Now
the PEUGEOT 604 Landaulet has been restored to its former beauty.
I hope to see it again on international events - and talk to its
owner about its history... |

Dominique
PAGNEUX, author of the famous book "La 604 de mon père"
(, ETAI Editions, ISBN 2-7268-8525-X), is the owner of the fantastic,
unique PEUGEOT 604 estate pictured [above] and [right]. This car
has been bodied by BARRÉ coachwork, a sociéty in the
nord of France, for a funeral sociéty called P.F.G.

The rear portion is from a Ford Granada estate. This transformation
has been realized on a 604 TI 1978, in the year 1982.

The
604 Break BARRÉ was restored by the PEUGEOT Muséum,

...as
you can see by this photo, showing the car pre-restoration
|
Another
coachbuilder, called André PARAT, realized two more 604 Breaks,
which were styled differently to the cars with BARRE coachwork,
and were not used as hearses. The C.A.M.P.
(Club Autos Miniatures PEUGEOT) made a miniature of this 604 Break
type. Expect photos of the real thing soon. |

for little money in Belgium. The seller did sent me some photos,

I
believe this car was a one-off, built by a skilled PEUGEOT entusiast.
But why? Note 404 badge

Not
much space under platform. The car seems to be well built, with
attention to every detail

Can anyone, maybe
its new owner, shed some light on this special 604? Please
